Summer Speech Ideas

CANDID CAMERA

Give your child a disposable camera with the instructions to take pictures of all the things they can find that has their speech sound. After the pictures are developed, put them in a book and label them. The pictures may be used to write a story about the picture, using as many words with the speech sound as possible.

Your child may read the story, using the correct speech sound.

The camera is also a great way to practice speech over the summer. It may be used on vacations, made into albums and then target specific words to practice the speech sounds.

GAMES

Great for long trips in the car!! Play "I am thinking of...." or "I need..." This game can be adapted for many different occasions. Some suggestions follow:
  • I am going to the beach and I need....
  • I am going to have a BBQ and I need.....
  • I am going to the pool and I need.....
  • I am going camping and I need.....
  • I am going on a trip and I need......
  • I am going to the grocery store and I need......
  • **Take turns adding items to the list, repeating all the items each time.
Description games are fun, also, and can be played anywhere!
I am thinking of something round, it bounces, you can kick it, or catch it.

What is it? (try to describe an item that contains the child's speech
sound). Reverse roles and have the child think of an object, using
    their good speech!!
